Today we’re featuring an interview with Bridal Makeup Artist, Christine Danderand of Blush Makeup Artistry. Christine has a background in both Makeup and Fashion design and has worked on several independent film productions, as well as photo shoots from print/TV and fashion shows across the country! She’s had a love for makeup since the very beginning and her strong passion for the industry led her to begin her own makeup business right here in Omaha. Blush Makeup Artistry offers on-location makeup services for the bride, bridesmaids and even mothers of the bride and grandmas too!
When did you know a career in beauty was for you?
I knew very early on that I wanted a career in makeup. My Mom has said that I’ve been holding a makeup brush for about as long as I’ve been able to hold a pencil. I remember sitting at my Grandmas vanity with her when we would visit and just watch her every move as she applied her “rouge” and lips every morning.
My passion for all things makeup grew as I got older and my obsession turned into a potential job. I launched my makeup career basically as soon as high school ended.
How do wedding makeup trials work?
When a bride books her wedding makeup with me I always offer the bride a free trial. This is where she comes in to my studio and we test out a wedding day look based on whatever ideas she has of how she wants to look on her big day. This way my brides feel comfortable with how I apply the makeup and we can work out any “kinks” before the big day.
Do you have a bridal salon or do you go on location?
I have a studio at my home where the brides come for their trial runs. However, on the wedding day I always travel to the bride. This way her only job that day is to sit back, relax and enjoy her day with her friends and family while I provide the pampering.
How long should brides allow in their day of schedule for makeup application?
I only need about 20 minutes per person. This means I am able to do several people in a short amount of time which leaves more time for relaxing!
Do you offer makeup services for the bridal party as well?
I often do the entire bridal party and moms and grandmas too! Only about 20 minutes needed per person and the cost includes lashes for anyone that wants them as well!
Do you offer touchup services throughout the day?
Typically I don’t offer touchup services but only because they wont’ be needed. With the airbrush makeup, you get about 24 hours wear out of it. It is completely waterproof and transfer resistant so my brides don’t require touchups. The only part that will need a touchup is the lips and I buy the bride a lipgloss so she has that on hand all day.
Do you offer bridal packages for makeup?
I have one fee for the bride and one for anyone else in the party. There are no hidden extras either. So lashes are included as is the trial. One price and no surprises!
Do you offer any other beauty services besides makeup?
I only provide makeup services, however, I do have a hair stylist that I work with that I can also bring on location.
Do you recommend that the bride provide her own makeup?
No! I provide all the tools and makeup needed for the day so no need to worry about carrying around all that extra stuff!
What is most important for brides to remember for their wedding day makeup?
I would say to make sure you try out the makeup of anyone you are looking to hire. An artist should always offer a trial as part of their service so there aren’t any surprises. And yes it costs a bit to have your makeup done on the big day but remember pictures last a lifetime! Don’t be disappointed!
