How to Plan the Perfect Nebraska Rustic Barn Wedding

Barns offer a fresh alternative to traditional wedding venues. Barn weddings definitely aren’t a new thing, but we love the infinite number of ways that brides and grooms can incorporate their own style and personality into rural and historical backdrops. While every barn venue will have it’s own character, most will offer the perfect blend of rustic charm and rural beauty that all of your friends and family will love. There are a handful of great barn venues in Omaha and Lincoln that offer guests a very unique wedding experience.

Embrace the natural beauty by adding details that blend with the environment. White wooden chairs or benches can bring out a chic and natural feel to your ceremony. We love the idea of hanging vintage wooden window frames in the backdrop of an outdoor ceremony. Adding simple and natural floral details is one of the best ways to embrace the outdoor setting and add soft hints of your wedding color throughout the space.

Make sure to think about how your space will look and feel after the sun sets. Strands of warm, glowing lights strung from the rafters can create the perfect ambiance and romantic feel to your rustic space. Think about hanging a vintage chandelier or two to add another dimension to your space.

Just like outdoor weddings, you can let the setting and scenery speak for itself. Enhance it by including complementary color palettes and décor elements. The perfect way to create a vintage theme is by adding different styles of antique furniture outside for guests to enjoy during the cocktail hour and reception. Try using mason jars instead of traditional vases for a unique touch that your guests will definitely remember.

Most barn wedding venues allow you to bring in your own caterer and choose the menu style of your choice. If you’re having a more relaxed wedding, bring in the BBQ and the apple pie! Serve sweet tea or lemonade in mason jars instead of traditional drinking glasses.

Outdoor settings also provide a great environment to set-up entertainment for guests to enjoy their time and make memories at your wedding. Outdoor games like horseshoes, croquet or mini golf can add a fun twist to a traditional cocktail hour and reception. Even including send-off sparklers or traditional Chinese lanterns are great ways to make your wedding unique. These will give you some of the most creative and memorable pictures to remember your day. Think outside the box when it comes to your outdoor entertainment and you’ll provide guests with memories of your wedding they will never forget.
